How to make crepes? (Video recipe)
Crepes are thin pancakes, made from a batter of flour, eggs, milk, and a little butter, which are cooked in a frying pan. They can be served either sweet, with toppings such as sugar, fruit, and syrup, or savory, with ingredients such as cheese, vegetables, and meat. Crepes are a popular dish in France, but they´re also enjoyed in many other countries around the world.
Recipe to Make Crepes:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp melted butter
And the Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and eggs until smooth. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Stir in the salt and melted butter.
- Heat a non stick pan over medium heat. Pour a small amount of batter into the center of the pan, swirling the pan to spread the batter evenly.
- Cook the crepe until the bottom is lightly browned, about 2 minutes. Carefully flip the crepe and cook for another minute on the other side.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
Is Crepe Batter the Same as Pancake Batter?
The batter for crepes and pancakes is similar but not exactly the same. Both contain flour, eggs, and milk as the main ingredients, but the proportions of these ingredients are differents.
Crepe batter is made to be a little thinner and smoother than pancake batter, which results in a thinner and more delicate finished product. Some crepe recipes may include ingredients like sugar, vanilla extract, or salt to add flavor, others may leave these out. Pancake batter, on the other hand, is often made with baking powder or baking soda to create a thicker, fluffier final product.
Is Crepes Healthy?
It depends on the ingredients used to make the crepes and the way they´re prepared. Crepes made with whole grain flour and filled with fruits and vegetables can be a healthy option. Crepes made with refined flour and filled with high fat and sugary ingredients can be unhealthy. It's best to choose ingredients that align with your nutritional goals and to prepare crepes in a balanced way.
